From Kristopher Brooks in the Florida Times-Union:
State Senator John Thrasher announced today that he endorses Duval County School Board candidate Jason Fischer in the District 7 race.
The senator said he thinks Thrasher is perfect for the school board, adding that “I am confident that Jason Fischer will serve the school board of Duval County the best.”
“Jason will be a staunch promoter for education reform and will fight to make sure that our teachers and students have the tools and resources necessary to ensure quality education is delivered throughout our communities.”
Fischer, a former Navy engineer who is now a purchasing manager for CSX, is running for the seat currently held by Tommy Hazouri. Fischer, 29, also grabbed State Senator Steve Wise’s endorsement earlier this year. Fischer’s opponents in the District 7 race thus far are: Coree Cuff, Lori Harrell Hershey, Jon Heymann, Frank Swanson and John Turner.
Thrasher AND Wise? Looks like a lot of Florida chamber money will be going to Fischer. There aren’t many sitting Florida politicians who bare responsibility for Florida’s test-based, charter-school favoring system as do Thrasher and Wise. With it being clear that pols like them feel that school boards are to do as they are told, its clear they have this in Fischer.
Like in Pinellas candidate Glen Gilzean, its clear the state’s republican establishment will be putting a lot of money behind candidates who, well, will do as they are told. Still, I wonder if Fischer is even aware that one of the men endorsing him in Wise, once tried to eliminate the salary he will be getting if elected.
