Bush Protest Tomorrow Drawing a Wide Net of Participants

Alex Leary’s piece in Tampa Bay Times political blog, The Buzz, marks the introduction of the protest against Jeb Bush education policies to the national media. Leary is one of the Times top political writers and is based in Washington.

Getting top billing for the event is teacher activist organization, Florida Bad-Ass Teachers and the Democrat Party of Florida. This is easy pickings for the sea of Bush mouthpieces who will be on hand. Those people outside, you see, are partisan Democrats and a members of the teachers union. Move along. Nothing to see.

But it’s just not true. Two other groups – neither which could be seen as partisan allies of FBAT or DPF – will be there, too.

The Florida Stop Common Core Coalition and Florida Opt-Out have been recognizing the protest via social media outlets and some members are planning on attending. If the media does diligence, they will be interviewed and it will trump any effort by the Bush campaign to spin the protest.

About Bob Sikes

A long time ago and a planet far, far away I was an athletic trainer for the New York Mets. I was blessed to be part of the now legendary 1986 World Series Championship. My late father told me that I'd one day be thankful I had that degree in teaching from Florida State University. He was right and I became twice blesses to become a teacher in the late 1990's. After dabbling with writing about the Mets and then politics, I settled on education.
