Scathing Purple Musings anticipated that reporter Serge Kovaleski would have articles archived that proved he indeed had a relationship with Donald Trump which would discredit Trump’s denials. Here’s some of what The New York Daily News posted yesterday:
The reporter Donald Trump claims he’s never seen before says he spent a whole day with the bombastic billionaire while working for the Daily News — and he’s drawn Trump’s ire before.
Serge Kovaleski, now a New York Times reporter, said he closely covered Trump’s launch of an airline in 1989.
“I spent the entire day with Trump, along with some other reporters, on the inaugural voyage of the Trump Shuttle, which Trump bought from Eastern Airlines in the late 1980s,” Kovaleski told The News in an email on Friday.
“Flying out of La Guardia, we spent a big chunk of the day flying up and down the east coast with Trump chatting with me and the others on the plane.”
“Trump held press conferences in Boston and Washington, D.C., during each stop. And there was a big presser in New York, of course — all of which I covered,” he said of the shuttle launch day back in 1989.
But the sensitive billionaire didn’t like that Kovaleksi’s story called out the plane for being late.
“The following day, when my story ran, Trump was furious,” he said. “The story, to the best of my recollection, lead with the fact that the flight left 12 or 18 minutes late on its first voyage even though Trump had run many ads saying the Trump Shuttle would be the most on-time airline in the industry.”
“Trump and the guy who was running the Trump Shuttle for him … called me the day the story ran and Trump started screaming over the speaker phone about what a piece of sh– the story was,” Kovaleski said.
The account, however, doesn’t square with Trump’s defense, where he claimed he couldn’t pick the reporter out of a crowd.
“Somebody at the financially failing and totally biased New York Times said that, over the years, I have met Mr. Kovaleski. Despite having one of the all-time great memories, I certainly do not remember him,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Trump is still in denial mode. These Tweets are from two hours ago:
The reporter who pulled-back from his 14 year old never retracted story is having fun. I don’t know what he looks like and don’t know him!
But he’s covering his bases, too:
Virtually no-one has spent more money in helping the American people with disabilities than me. Will discuss today at my speech in Sarasota
So is Trump signaling that he’ll begin to walk this back in Sarasota today?
Mockgate reveals just how unfit Donald Trump is for command. Aside from being being a self-promoting rich guy who inherited his money and one who can manipulate our bankruptcy laws, he has no redeeming qualities one would expect in a commander-in-chief.
Moreover, those conservative entities who have enabled Trump throughout these last months should be held to account as well. When are the talking head conservative class going to stop excusing away this asshats’ disgusting blather in the name of combating political correctness?
