The Bully Finally Emerges in Chris Christie’s School Yard Taunt of Marco Rubio

Stinging from his pathetic showing in Iowa, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie put on his bully cap, and went after a surging Marco Rubio in an unhinged attack that probably impresses Donald Trump. From Philip Rucker in the Washington Post:

“Maybe he’ll do more than 40 minutes on a little stage telling everybody his canned speech that he’s memorized,” Christie told reporters. “This isn’t a student council election, everybody. This is an election for president of the United States. Let’s get the boy in the bubble out of the bubble, and let’s see him play for the next week in New Hampshire. I’m ready to play, and I hope he is.”

“It’s time for him to man up and step up and stop letting all of his handlers write his speeches and handle him,” Christie said. Talking to reporters, Christie added, “If he wants to sit here and answer your tough questions about his flip-flops on immigration, if he wants to answer your tough questions about his lack of record and experience, if he wants to answer your questions about why he ran away from his own immigration bill when it got too hot, I’m fascinated to hear his answers.”

Rubio stomped Christie in Iowa and he trails him in the polls. With only a few days to go, Christie is going nuclear to see if he can rattle Rubio. Are New Hampshire voters impressed? This sort of bare knuckles stuff plays far better in South Carolina, but Christie knows that if Rubio bests him in New Hampshire he won’t have a South Carolina.

Moreover, Christie knows that Rubio has been hitting out of the park the questions he wants reporters to pepper spray Rubio with. He’s working the refs, and such an attack is best handled by a surrogate which is what happened:

Rubio campaign spokesman Joe Pounder responded, saying in a statement: “No amount of hot air or made-up facts can distract from Chris Christie’s liberal record of supporting Common Core, gun control, abortion rights, Planned Parenthood, and Obama’s liberal judicial picks. Marco is the only candidate who can unite conservatives and beat Hillary Clinton.”

Professional dismissal by Pounder.  Rubio will get baited with Christie’s calculated taunt throughout the week and like Pounder, will handle it with ease. The school yard bullying will end up ramping up Christie’s negatives in the end.

About Bob Sikes

A long time ago and a planet far, far away I was an athletic trainer for the New York Mets. I was blessed to be part of the now legendary 1986 World Series Championship. My late father told me that I'd one day be thankful I had that degree in teaching from Florida State University. He was right and I became twice blesses to become a teacher in the late 1990's. After dabbling with writing about the Mets and then politics, I settled on education.

One Response to The Bully Finally Emerges in Chris Christie’s School Yard Taunt of Marco Rubio

  1. Dave says:

Rubio is a phony and very Anti American Worker. He has always advocated for more foreign workers and buying more foreign products – he even stated so in a meet and greet type meeting when he was running for the Senate. He is clever and figures out some good slogans but never takes questions because then people would find out who he really is.
