Even Democrats rolled their eyes at that incredible meeting between former President Bill Clinton and US Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the Phoenix International Airport tarmac this week. It’s really not hard to envision this Ken Catalino cartoon:
Republicans have no illusions that somehow, the Clintons get away with it again. And the Democrat party machine which includes Lynch-shameless to the last – will cover for them. Only the objection of FBI Director Jim Comey or the rumored revolt by massive amounts of FBI agents or intelligence professionals could overcome Democrats reliable mainstream media wall.
And wouldn’t that be something to see?
It ain’t happening and the Clinton’s last protective wall is still there, too. Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. An electoral disaster, Trump and his acolytes continue to dig an even deeper hole for themselves. At a time they should be adding republican voters, they are hemorrhaging them. Take this Trump rant this week covered by Lisa Hagen in TheHill:
“It was a rough campaign, and I wasn’t nice, but they weren’t nice either,” the presumptive GOP nominee said at a rally in Bangor, Maine.
“Honestly, you sign a pledge, you’re supposed to honor the pledge,” he continued.
Trump called them “really sore losers” and said they only signed the pledge so he would do so as well.
“They broke their word, and in my opinion, they shouldn’t be allowed to run for office again … because what they did is disgraceful.”
Trump is used to bullying his way through life. Say what you will about seasoned politicians like the one’s he insulted, they aren’t sissies.
And the scare tactics of his online minions are much better:
Instead of focusing efforts of firming up support with those wanting to be persuaded, the entire Trump camp is insulting, threatening and engaging in sophomoric demagoguery. What’s up with that?
How on earth can a potential winner of a general election emerge from such irrational behavior? How does it help Republicans maintain majorities in the House and Senate? How could it even govern? How could it even defeat a Joe Biden-Elizabeth Warren replacement ticket?
Perhaps if I hadn’t stopped watching FoxNews, my #NeverTrump leanings might never have been sustained, but I don’t do smug. And I don’t like be lectured to by smug know-it-alls who demonize my people as some sort of evil strawmen known as “The Establishment”, or the more recent “Quislings,” a disgusting refernce to Dutch collaborators to the Nazis in World War II. I suppose “racist” wasn’t available to them.
Label me “The Eastablishment,” and color me #NeverTrump.
