State Media’s Report on Turkish Air Force General’s Confession Disputed by Another Media Source

From Al Jazzerra News:

Former Turkish air force chief Akin Ozturk has “confessed” to prosecutors his role in plotting the coup that attempted to topple Ozturkthe government over the weekend, state-run Anadolu Agency said on Monday.

Ozturk was quoted as having told interrogators that he “acted with intention to stage a coup”.

Photographs of Ozturk published by Anadolu appeared to show several injuries to his upper body and head.

Shortly after news broke of Ozturk’s alleged confession, Turkish broadcaster NTV countered Anadolu’s report, claiming to have obtained a copy of Ozturk’s testimony and saying the former air force chief had denied any involvement in Friday’s coup attempt.

“I am not the person who is responsible for the coup on 15/06/2016,” NTV reported Ozturk as saying during his interrogation.

“I do not know who planned or directed this coup. I was planning to attend the wedding of a friend’s daughter in Istanbul, but I couldn’t go. In the morning, I was in Izmir. I had some business with the notary. I can prove this. I couldn’t go to the wedding because of this notary business.”

Wonder how much longer NTV will be up an running.

About Bob Sikes

A long time ago and a planet far, far away I was an athletic trainer for the New York Mets. I was blessed to be part of the now legendary 1986 World Series Championship. My late father told me that I'd one day be thankful I had that degree in teaching from Florida State University. He was right and I became twice blesses to become a teacher in the late 1990's. After dabbling with writing about the Mets and then politics, I settled on education.
