Betsy DeVos, President-elect Trump’s nominee to be Secretary of State, took a page from her new boss’ playbook and went directly to the people via Twitter about Common Core.
From her link:
I do support high standards, strong accountability, and local control. When Governors such as John Engler, Mike Huckabee, and Mike Pence were driving the conversation on voluntary high standards driven by local voices, it all made sense.
Have organizations that I have been a part of supported Common Core? Of course. But that’s not my position. Sometimes it’s not just students who need to do their homework.
However, along the way, it got turned into a federalized boondoggle.
Not so fast, Betsy.
You can’t be part of the Bush education reform crime family for as long as you have and dodge “accountability’ for shoving what you now call a “federalized boondoggle” down everyone’s throat with your own money. Common Core is a pedogogical disaster, failed spectacularly with the public and was even rejected by your own party.
Jeb may still be the Godfather of ed reform, but you have a new boss now, The Donald, and he called Godfather’s education policy a joke during the primary.
And I’ve “done my homework.” You’ll find almost 1500 posts here documenting the damage you and Jeb did to our education system in the name of your own narrow, haughty definition of accountability and choice.
Follow her on twitter and let her know why standards aren’t the problems, the curricula and materials needed to get to them are abusive and ridden with errors.
First she supports Common Core, rams it down our throats and NOW it’s no good anymore! Where is her accountability to what she and her family has backed? Where’s her data to show Common Core was going to work in the first place? Where is the Science behind all of this developmentally inappropriate standards? I know the answer. There is none. Now here’s the next question. Where is the data to prove Charter, for profit, from our tax dollars, schools are good for our children. Show us the data and the research to prove it is best for our children. Also, how can a woman who has never been in a public school be an expert? Why is this wealthy woman interested in our childrens education? Because she cares? Hell no.
